The Time is Now: Mass lobby of Parliament 26 June 2019
Join thousands of people at Westminster on Wednesday 26 June to tell our MPs that #TheTimeIsNow to prevent climate breakdown and save our wildlife.
The Time is Now is being organised by The Climate Coalition and Greener UK, representing millions of people across the UK.
People are coming to London from all over the country for face-to-face meetings with our MPs. Invite your MP to meet you there: Here’s a template you could adapt.
The main event is happening between 1pm and 4pm. We’ll form a huge line organised by region and constituency and stewards will ferry MPs straight to you.
Visit The Time is Now website to sign up.
What’s the problem?
Time is running out. Across the globe people are already suffering the effects of climate change. We’re pushing our wildlife to the brink of extinction. But instead of urgently cutting emissions and restoring nature, our government seems set on the opposite.
Creating a greener world has to be our top priority. Help us take this message straight to politicians at Westminster. It’s time for the biggest mass lobby of Parliament. Join us on 26 June .
What we’ll be asking MPs
At the mass lobby on 26 June, we’ll be asking MPs for:
- Net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
- A new Environment Bill with a fierce watchdog and ambitious targets.
- Billions of pounds more funding to prevent climate chaos and support nature.
- UK diplomacy to focus on climate and the environment at the UN summits in 2020 and the G7 in 2021.
Who’s involved?
Catholic Aid Agency (CAFOD), Christian Aid, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, RSPB, Tearfund, Oxfam, National Trust, Women’s Institute (WI), WWF, The Woodland Trust, and 46 Wildlife Trusts (including the one local to you!)
Can’t get to London?
There’s plenty you can still do! Check out the Friends of the Earth guide for people who can’t attend the mass lobby but want to be involved.
Spread the word on social media or even meet your MP beforehand.
Let as many people as you can know about the lobby online, at meetings and in person. Posters, flyers and other resources are available at thetimeisnowmap.co.uk.
You can also tweet using the hashtag #TheTimeIsNow.
Meet your MP in your constituency: If you or your MP can’t make it to Westminster on 26 June, arrange to meet them in your constituency instead.
Ask your workplace how they’re taking action to protect our climate: Check out the global day of workplace action resources, then arrange a meeting to find out how your employer is fighting climate change – and discuss what more they could do.
