Are you passionate about gardening and want to share your skills?

We are looking for gardeners to bring their enthusiasm and knowledge to people interested in learning how to grow their own food in wildlife-friendly ways.

The volunteer opportunity

There is no barrier to the gardening activities we can offer at our Grapevine Coffee Hall site, so this is your opportunity to get creative; helping us to plan what we do to establish the garden.

We aim to show how gardening can be fun and done together as a community, in ways that support wildlife and demonstrate how anyone can grow their own food.

In return for whatever time you can give to support our gardening group on Friday mornings, you will be helping the lonely and isolated people who come along to get outdoors and connect with people, nature and to learn new things.

Volunteer in your local community

Practical considerations

This opportunity will suit a self-starter who has the ability to teach basic gardening skills and help grow some vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers in a small garden on Friday mornings.

Tact, patience, and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people is needed as you will need to work with small groups of people with different gardening abilities and that may include vulnerable adults.

What our volunteers get

There is no long-term commitment asked of our volunteers, and never any obligation to do anything you don’t want to do. After all, volunteering is about us doing something altruistic that makes us feel good, so having some fun doing it just as important to us too.

As part of our volunteer team, you get:

  • a close-knit group of like-minded people who believe in a caring, sharing society, and who will support you.
  • a greater connection to the local community and wildlife-friendly food growing
  • a sense of a slower, more sustainable pace of life that is focused on connecting with people, the environment, and nature
  • involvement on your own terms in activities you enjoy and can gain new skills from
  • creative fulfilment from doing great things as part of our local community
  • great stories to tell and that can make standout contributions to your CV!
