As we near the end of September and autumn sets in, it’s time to mark some of the final Planting Up events of the year in our diaries.
Sure you might need to put a coat on, but here are 5 good reasons to get out and enjoy the glowing colours, bracing walks and healthy harvests of Autumn with us:
- Wed 26 Sep, 10am – 4pm: Our first-ever all-day permablitz and one where volunteers from National Rail have organised to help us as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility volunteer day.
As always, there will be plenty to do in the garden, particularly as we start to prepare for winter. We should get a lot done with a full day of activity but we’ll be keeping everyone well fuelled and refreshed with free food and drink over the course of the day, which will include us adding a home-made hearty soup to the usual “bring & share” lunch at 1pm.
- Thu 4 Oct, 7pm – 8.30pm: Our “Coffee Corner” Planning Evening kicks off our October events as we check-in with each other (over a hot drink and biccies) to get updates on the project, learn what we’ve all been up to, and to begin making group plans for our final speaker event of the year due to take place towards the end of this month.
- Sun 14 Oct, 11am – 2pm marks our final October Weekend Permablitz (with “Bring & Share” lunch) and our weekday permablitz on Wed 24 Oct, 10am – 1pm, is potentially our last one of 2018.
Not that we need a reason to get together for some gardening and to eat, but our activity in the garden on both days will be aimed at completing our winter prep and helping us to get everything tidied up and ready for the next big public Planting Up event.
- Sat 27 Oct, 10.30am – 1pm: “Incredible Edibles!” – Our final, big, public, Planting Up event of 2018. A FREE workshop at Westbury Arts Centre where our guest speakers will convey ideas that reflect what our project is all about, as we celebrate creating a kind, resilient and connected community through the power of food and how to best preserve it.
Everyone is welcome to join in. Please RSVP on EventBrite, Facebook, our website or by emailing: [email protected] to save your seat.
