Greentown 2023 Pecha Kucha
Architecture students at the University of Nottingham have spent the academic year studying The New Town of Milton Keynes and proposing design projects for the city. The theme of the year has been GreenTown ’23, referencing the ambitious – but unbuilt – 1970s plans for a third garden city in MK.
Design projects include experimental GreenTown eco-housing in Campbell Park, inspired by the Homeworld, Energy World and Future World housing expos for which the city is famous. Environmentally themed, pop-up pavilions in support of the expo were designed for various sites across CMK from Station Square, along Midsummer Boulevard, to the Boyd and Evans ‘Underpass’ at the threshold to Campbell Park. Thesis design projects consider the creative reuse of some key CMK buildings including the Bus Station, The Point, Lloyds Court and the Santander Building. Also, new-build proposals for the rear of the library site and for perimeter parking lots. Sites outside CMK include Netherfield, MK Hospital, Two Mile Ash and Linford Lakes.
Using the quickfire Pecha Kucha format (20 slides, 20 seconds per slide), the students will take us through their research and design processes.
