We enjoyed a sunny day at Sandy Lane Organic Farm (in Thame) for one of their open days on Sunday 11 June 2023 where we met up with an old friend who lives and works there.
Here are some of the pics from our trip…
There were all sorts of activities going on, from children’s painting and exploring a maize maze to sheep shearing displays.
We enjoyed meeting our friend in the shop and seeing first-hand as their organic veg boxes were put together.
It was great to get our hands on some agretti from the shop (and to see so much of it being grown) too, especially as this Italian salt-tolerant succulent can be so difficult to find in shops now that it is prized as such a delicacy.
The signage was really well done.
The chalkboards did a great job of explaining what was being grown and why, as well as highlighting the principles they were following (like “No dig”).
With the weather being so dry lately, we could also appreciate how productive the drip irrigation pipes were to the healthy plants sitting beside them and how useful the tarp and straw mulch was in the “no dig” sections.
The polytunnels were amazing.
Just look at how much they are growing!
We were envious of the rooftop irrigation system…
And admired the quality of the crops being grown as companions with intricate string supports hand-made for them.
We couldn’t NOT end such a lovely day without a slice of cake!
