Self Care Week is the annual UK-wide event that raises awareness of what we can all do to improve our physical health and mental wellbeing.
As the organiser of Self Care Week, the charity Self Care Forum, aims to empower and encourage everyone to make self care part of their everyday habits – an important message that is fundamentally about incorporating the practice of self care into our everyday lives to help us to live as healthily as possible, and for better health to cope with the challenges that come our way.
Practice Self-Care for Life
This year, the Self Care Week theme is “Practice self-care for life”, a reminder of how there is never a better time than now (the present) to think about how we live our lives.
It reminds us how even the smallest changes can help us take better care of ourselves and our families for overall better health and wellbeing, whether they are changes to what we eat or drink, how much exercise we do, how much sleep we get, or staying connected to our friends and family.
5 Ways to Wellbeing
For the past few years, the Milton Keynes Self Care Group has been highlighting the 5 Ways to Wellbeing as a helpful way to think about self-care. And although the group is closing down, accompanying their previous resources on the Healthwatch MK website, they have created one last inspiring toolkit resource (shown below) for individuals, families, community groups and organisations to use to improve wellbeing and practice self-care for life.
This needs-led toolkit with worksheets has been created to be used by individuals and organisations to plan various health and wellbeing projects and apply the ideas for yourself and your family.
